www.CivixWestVan.ca is a volunteer-run West Vancouver electoral society dedicated to preserving and enhancing the quality of life in our community through good governance

Civix is for ensuring new development does not negatively impact residents’ quality of life like:

  • traffic gridlock

  • parking issues

  • protection of views

  • protection of privacy

  • access to sunlight, etc.

Civix is for prioritizing current residents’ needs and concerns ahead of hypothetical, future residents

Civix is for financial prudence by limiting property tax plus utility increases to less than the rate of inflation and concurrently maintaining all of West Vancouver’s capital assets; cost management is a priority and that includes optimization in program delivery

Civix is for reducing West Van’s environmental carbon footprint caused by new construction (called embodied carbon), possibly by requiring the purchase of ‘immediate carbon payback’ offsets by the developer

Civix is for facilitating robust public dialogue and collaborating on the future of West Van by providing community access to blogs and comments hosted on this site. Civix aims to provide a safe environment for reading, sharing and commenting on diverse points of view

Civix is for secure electronic eVoting |x| by West Vancouver taxpayers on significant community decisions and requiring Council to vote with the majority of residents. Significant community decisions may include parts of the annual budget like property tax and utility rates , large capital expenditures (such as a new Arts facility), and significant spot zoning requests or changes to the Official Community Plan (such as Baptist Housing’s proposal for Inglewood or rezoning Cypress Village for higher density that could add 7,000 new residents).

When residents vote on significant community decisions it contributes to transparent and democratic governance of West Vancouver
